Qhubeka is once again running our #67Bicycles campaign this year for Mandela Day on 18 July. We’re asking you to help us to raise funds for 67 bicycles to mobilise 67 schoolchildren. All you need to do is ride for 67 minutes (or do any other activity that has a positive impact) and donate R67 or more to Qhubeka through our GivenGain page.
We’re thrilled to see that our supporters around the world are rallying to help us do this. A number of events have been organised where people can take on the challenge together. Here are a few:
Johannesburg, South Africa: Bryan Park Virgin Active spinathon
If you’re a Virgin Active Bryan Park member or have national membership, drop in and spin on Friday 18 July between 5:30 and 8:30 or 16:00 to 18:00 in aid of #67Bicycles. Donations will be taken electronically or in cash on the day. For more info, email email@example.com.
Johannesburg, South Africa: Northern Farm MTB ride
Visit Northern Farm for a weekend ride on Saturday 19 July or Sunday 20 July and interact with Qhubeka. We’ll have a gazebo there for donations and purchases of Qhubeka merchandise between 7am and 2pm, so you can do your 67 minutes of riding and make a cash donation to us while you’re there. For more info, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Cape Town, South Africa: Tokai MTB ride
Do your bit for charity this Mandela Day and join the Full Sus and Tokai MTB Club team at Trail & Tar in Tokai for a mountain bike ride in Tokai forest. They’ll be riding for 67 minutes on Friday afternoon and all you need to do is knock off work early, donate R67 to Qhubeka, bring your SANParks Activity Card or R30 for entry into Tokai and meet us at Trail & Tar at 14:00. Visit the webpage for more info.
Cape Town, South Africa: Jonkershoek MTB ride
MTB Earth Chicks are organising a 67 minute ride on 3 August 2014 to fundraise for our #67Bicycles project. Join them at 9:30 on Sunday, 3 August for a ride through Jonkershoek Nature Reserve. Entry to the reserve costs R25. Visit the webpage for more info.
Copenhagen, Denmark: ride and braai (BBQ)
This ride will cover just over 20 kilometres and leave at 4pm from Cafe Mandela on Vesterbro, ending at Kastrup Strandpark (in front of Kastrup Søbad / Sea Bath) where riders can enjoy a braai (the South African word for barbecue). There will be enough pap and chakalaka for the first 67 riders! If you don’t know what pap and chakalaka is, join in to find out! For more info, visit the Facebook page.
