Advendurance, race organiser of the MTN National MTB Series driven by Nissan, has donated R59 990.00 to Qhubeka, collected through its medal donation campaign.
Advendurance allowed riders to choose between receiving a race medal and donating the cost of the medal to Qhubeka. Over the course of 2014, a total of 4 434 medals were donated out of the 14 260 race entries, and a further R12 350 was raised through cash donations to Qhubeka.
The total amount of R59 990 will fund 28 brand new Qhubeka Buffalo Bicycles for Qhubeka programme participants who work to earn them.
Fritz Pienaar from Advendurance says, “We as a company are passionate about cycling and therefore decided to support a cycling-related charity in Qhubeka. We gave people the opportunity to donate their medals or add an additional amount at checkout as an easy way to show their support. It is great to know that the medals and cash donations will make a change in the lives of 28 kids, who will each receive brand new bicycles.”
“Qhubeka would like to thank Advendurance and every rider who decided to forego a medal for choosing to support us, as well as those who made additional donations,” says Qhubeka Executive Director, Sarah Phaweni. “They have helped us to mobilise 28 more people with bicycles, changing their lives for the better. Qhubeka appreciates their support. The smiles on the faces of the bicycle recipients shine just as brightly as any medal could.”
