At the recent Tour of Dubai, the Dimension Data team for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) committed to do “a kilometer for Qhubeka”. Dimension Data is the title sponsor for Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka, which was racing at the Tour of Dubai, and Dimension Data employees in the region came up with cool idea to fund bicycles for Qhubeka while supporting the team.
They hosted a tent with two stationary bicycles at the start line and challenged Dimension Data employees and anybody that wanted to help to match the number of kilometers Team Dimension Data was cycling every day, during the five-stage race. Every stage they matched in distance would result in Dimension Data donating one bicycle to Qhubeka.
With support from employees and other helpers, the group managed to ride more than the 841km distance of the race. There was a fair bit of media interest in the event, with the story being picked up by Gulf News and Dubai Eye radio station, as well as Dubai Sport Television.
For every participant, Dimension Data UAE handed out a card that displayed a photo of the person riding the bike, the number of kilometers they contributed and the story of Qhubeka.
Thanks so much, Dimension Data UAE!
