Qhubeka is thrilled that we have been chosen by Discovery as a beneficiary of the Discovery Duathlon Sandton event! The duathlon takes place on 24 and 25 October, and parking tickets will be sold for Saturday and Sunday as a donation of R30, R50 or R100 (please note that tickets are only valid for one day and the donation amount does not provide for a preferred parking bay).
All of the proceeds from the parking tickets will go to Qhubeka and the ticket will enable you to park in the Discovery parking lot on Fredman Drive, situated right at the Discovery Duathlon Race Village.
Here’s more about the event from the Discovery Duathlon website:
“Discovery is proud to bring you the Discovery Duathlon Sandton in October this year – your chance to RUNCYCLERUN through the streets of Sandton.
The Duathlon is the first of its kind in Sandton and we have created an event that is accessible- from experienced athletes to those of you that have just started out.
The Discovery Duathlon offers something for everyone.
On Saturday 24 October, your kids can share in the Disney magic in the Discovery Duathlon Kids Event. Kids can let it go as they run through Frozen winter wonderland, look for Nemo in the bubble tunnel, and run with the Good Dinosaur as they get closer to the finish line. The Discovery Duathlon Kids Event is for 5 to 11 year olds and we have tailored the routes for their ages:
5 – 6 years – 210m run, 1.2km cycle, 210m run
7 – 9 years – 210m run, 2.4km cycle, 210m run
10 – 11 years – 1.4km run, 3.6km cycle, 1.1km run
On Sunday 25 October, the main Duathlon races take place. The event has three distances to choose from, with the Super Sprint- 2.5km run, 12km cycle, 2.5km run distance easily reachable- especially if you can run 5km! You can take part as an individual or as a team – with either two or three members. So cyclists can grab a runner and do the Duathlon easily!
Standard – 10km run, 40km cycle, 5km run
Sprint – 5km run, 20km cycle, 2.5km run
Super Sprint – 2.5km run, 12km cycle, 2.5km run

2016 Aviles ITU World Championships Team Selection
The Discovery Duathlon Sandton will serve as one of only three designated races for the selection of the TSA South African Team to compete at the 2016 Aviles ITU Duathlon World Championships.
Given the challenging cycle route, the stronger cyclists will definitely not want to miss this one!
So whether you’d like to compete or support the athletes, join us over the weekend of 24 and 25 October for the Discovery Duathlon Sandton.”
