Edvald Boasson Hagen visits Qhubeka

Edvald Boasson Hagen rides for Team MTN-Qhubeka, Africa’s first ever UCI registered Professional Continental cycling team. He is one of the strongest all-rounders in cycling and has claimed 38 professional victories since launching his professional career in 2008. Edvald is also a two-time winner of his national tour in Norway. His ability to win from bunch sprints, breakaways and time trials has made Edvald one of the most versatile talents in the peloton.

The talented athletes in Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung race to build exposure for Qhubeka’s initiatives and ride to inspire potential new athletes within the community of Qhubeka bicycle recipients. When Edvald was recently in South Africa with the team, he visited one of the Qhubeka ECO projects run in partnership with Wildlands Conservation Trust. Below are some of the photos he took.

For me, it was good to see the township to get an understanding of what Qhubeka means for people there,” he says. “The trip left me humbled and filled with inspiration. I wish to bring that into my cycling, for the team to succeed and therefore to shed light on an important organisation and its goals.”

Qhubeka ECO projects, in partnership with Qhubeka implementation partner Wildlands Conservation Trust, provide bicycles to people across Africa in return for work done to improve their communities and the environment, including planting trees, recycling waste and farming food.
