Elizabeth’s story

Elizabeth Xikambiso is 15 years old. She is a grade 9 pupil at a school in Giyani, Limpopo, where she received a bicycle in May 2017 as part of a Qhubeka learn-to-earn programme.

Elizabeth says having a bicycle means it take her less time to get to school every day. “Since getting my bicycle, I didn’t come late to school,” she says. “I didn’t even use any public transport to come to school. I only used a bicycle to come to school.”

She says that she also uses the bicycle to get to the shops. “I would like to be a doctor and the bicycle is helping me to achieve my dream because I’m going to help other people and I will fulfil my dreams,” she says.
