Joberg2C for Qhubeka

Diane Carter will be riding the Joberg2C race from Johannesburg to Scottburgh to raise funds for Qhubeka. The nine-day ride kicks off on 26 April and covers approximately 100km per day. It begins in Heidelberg, just outside of Johannesburg and ends at the Scottburgh beach on 4 May.

Diane has always enjoyed mountain biking and has been riding for more than 10 years. Recently she has started doing more stage and adventure races. This will be her longest stage race so far and she says that her goal is to just complete every day in one piece.

Diane is riding with a friend as a team. “Neither of us have done Joberg2C before,” she says. “I have ridden Sani2C previously, which is a three-day ride from Underberg to Scottburgh, and the same three days of Sani2c are the last three days of Joberg2C.”

She first heard about Qhubeka through her boss, who has been supporting the organisation for some time. “When I mentioned that I had entered Joberg2C, she suggested that I ride for Qhubeka, so it was actually her idea,” explains Diane. “I think Qhubeka is an amazing concept and an inspiring way of getting people to help themselves, together with a positive and totally practical incentive.”

Diane says that she would like every person who makes a donation to Qhubeka in her name to know that Qhubeka is not just about giving bicycles to kids in townships. “It also teaches them that nothing is free, turns them into entrepreneurs, teaches them to be environmentally-friendly, sorts out crime, and takes trash out of and adds trees into the environment!”

She adds that people can support her by donating any amount they want into the Qhubeka bank account (see below), with the reference Diane Carter J2C, or through PayPal.
