Qhubeka Academy to feature on SuperSport

The MTN Qhubeka Grand Prix, which took place recently at the Hector Norris Park velodrome in Johannesburg, will be featured on SuperSport television during April. The event was hosted by MTN Club 100 to highlight its partnership with Qhubeka and as a platform for its Academy.

The programme included top class track racing from some of South Africa’s best riders. Qhubeka Academy and MTN Qhubeka Grand Prix Director, James Louter, provided commentary, along with Arnold Geerdts, and even Team Sky’s Chris Froome (who was training in South Africa) popped in to visit.

Team MTN-Qhubeka riders Jay Thomson and JC Nel, along with Team Principal, Doug Ryder, joined in for the “invitation street race”, as did many of the sponsors and spectators.

Louter explains that the vision for the Qhubeka Academy is to take riders along a development journey from the talent ID  to the Tour de France. “Qhubeka Academy is about identifying, developing and mentoring African cycling talent with the vision of African cycling participation at Olympic, Commonwealth and World Cycling Events,” he says. “The MTN Qhubeka Grand Prix is about taking racing to riders. Track riding provides a safe secure environment to mentor young riders in the art of race tactics and team drills, as well measuring performance and development.”
