Matt Brammeier and Nathan Haas, professional cyclists for Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka, and Nikki Harris-Brammeier, professional cyclist for Boels-Dolmans, have announced the inaugural Girona Gala and have announced this year’s charity partner for the event as Qhubeka.
According to unofficial media partner, The Peloton Brief, the Girona Gala will be a formal gala soiree held at El Jardin in the heart of the historic city centre of Girona. The dinner and festivities will take place on 22 October 2016. Following the dinner there will be a live auction of cycling memorabilia, bicycles, and various other bespoke pieces.
“I was chatting over a coffee with one of our friends at Deloitte, Tom Galizia, a couple of months ago, we both agreed that we, as riders should and could do more to promote and help our charity partner Qhubeka,” explains Matt Brammeier. “Just a few weeks later during the Tour of California, myself and Nathan, who is also pretty passionate about Qhubeka, bashed around a few ideas and it didn’t take us long to come up with the idea of a gala dinner and ride in Girona. We’ve always done what we can but we both agreed we wanted to go that extra mile. So far we have had so much fun and such an amazing response working on this project 22 October can’t come fast enough.”
Matt, Nathan and Nikki will also be offering some guided café rides earlier that day for those who have booked for the gala event. “We’ve been thinking for ages that it would be great to bring a cycling charity event to our home in Girona, and Qhubeka is the best excuse for it we could imagine,” says Nathan Haas. “Working on this event has been a great way to bond with a teammate over things beyond just racing as well. We both love the chance to do more for Qhubeka than what is required, and we really hope to see the continued success of this partnership and event for years to come. Oh, and of course, this is gonna be a rocking good time. We love any excuse for a damn good end of season party.”
The 2016 event is being presented with additional support from Dimension Data and Deloitte. Both are sponsors of Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka and have kindly offered services and support to ensure the viability and maximum charity fundraising.
