Camilla and Warrick Kernes have decided to embark on an expedition this year to ride Qhubeka Buffalo Bicycles from their home in Johannesburg to Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. This will see them covering 4 631km in 10 weeks on the single-speed, 22kg steel-framed bicycles!
Warrick is the founder and director of ActionGear and Camilla blogs at camboadventures.wordpress.com. The married couple is looking forward to travelling through Africa slowly, having the time to get to meet people along the way and arriving at the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro on their fifth wedding anniversary.
They will be supported by a Jeep crew with an off-road trailer. Bryan Fawcett and Bobby Fuller will form the support crew.
The Kernes plan to ride from 30 July until 17 October 2016. “Once we arrive in Moshi we will then join a group to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa,” explains Camilla. “We plan to summit Mount Kilimanjaro on our 5th wedding anniversary on 15 October 2016.”
“Our goal is to raise R100 000 for Qhubeka,” says Warrick. The couple has currently raised just over R28 000.
