Riding together for Madiba’s birthday

Yesterday we wrote about our Mandela Day plans. We’re asking you to spend 67 minutes riding your bicycle to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s life on his 95th birthday, 18 July 2013, and then to donate at least R67 to Qhubeka to help us get more people in Africa on bicycles.

Qhubeka’s goal is to raise enough money to fund 67 bicycles, which is the equivalent of R134 000.00. All we need is 2 000 people willing to ride their bicycles for 67 minutes and we can help 67 people in South Africa to move forward. Read yesterday’s post if you want to find out more about how to get involved.

Of course, lots of people prefer to ride together, so why not join up with friends and celebrate Mandela Day together the best way we know how – with bicycles!

If you’re in the Johannesburg area, you can join Tour De Jozi, leaving from Melville at 18.30 for an hour-long 5.5km group ride. Visit their website for more information.

Otherwise, if you’re organising a group ride in your neighbourhood and would like others to join you, let us know on Twitter or Facebook, and we’ll add the details of your event to this page. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #67minutes67bicycles.
