Today is Earth Day! Over one billion people in 192 countries are participating from Johannesburg to London to Sao Paolo, Seoul to Babylon City, New Delhi to New York, Cape Town to Cairo; people everywhere are taking action in their communities and helping depict the changes we can make on this earth through our choices.
Qhubeka believes that human well-being is dependent on environmental health. Through our partnership with Wildlands Conservation Trust we are actively pursueing a world that is not only greener but provides more opportunities for those at the bottom end of the economic scale.
One of these initiatives that Wildlands and Qhubeka are part of is to nurture ‘Tree-preneurs’ who grow trees from seed, and then barter what they have grown for food, clothes, education support and bicycles. One tree is earned for every 100 trees that reach 30cm by participants in the program.
In other areas Qhubeka has partnered with Wildlands to help clear areas of waste. In these areas participants collect 1 ton of waste in order to earn one Qhubeka Buffalo Bicycle.
