S’thembile’s story

S’thembile is 14 years old and in Grade 9. She lives in Bergville in KwaZulu-Natal and received a bicycle in April 2017.

“I used to travel for 1hr and 30 minutes or more to school,” S’thembile says. But now with Qhubeka bicycle I only ride for 30 minutes or less. I’ve noticed that my life has really changed because I am no longer a latecomer and I now have time to do things that every child does, but I never experienced on my own.”

S’thembile says she wants to be a doctor one day, and that riding her bicycle helps her to exercise and to be healthy, which she feels is important for someone who wants to work in the health sector.

“I can do a lot of things in less time,” she says. “I get time for my home chores and studying. I would like to say a big thank you to Qhubeka and their sponsors because they have taken or played a huge role to us as students and that inspires us so much to doing good. And I can say I can see the big change in my life thanks to Qhubeka. May the Good Lord bless you as you still do good. Peace out and I can say that I am the change that I want to see in this world.”
