Whether you love or hate Valentine’s Day, here’s a fun way to mark the day by doing something meaningful, either on behalf of the one you love, or in your own name.
Donate any amount to this Qhubeka campaign towards funding bicycles for people who work to earn them, and we will send you a range of special red and white Qhubeka illustrations to use as you choose. You could make your donation in honour of your Valentine and then print your choice of illustration on a card, a T-shirt or a mug for that special person, or colour one in by hand. Or, you could do the same for yourself and celebrate Valentine’s day solo, knowing you’ve helped to fund a bicycle that will change a person’s life forever.

Dillon Harland, who created this beautiful illustration for Qhubeka, shares how the idea developed:
“When creating the illustration for Qhubeka, I felt it necessary to include the variety of elements that encompass what the Qhubeka brand stands for – growth, learning, fun and adventure,” he says. “I also felt that it was important to give the illustration life and a sense of nostalgia by using South African iconography, such as the protea [South Africa’s national flower] and the aloe plants. These reinforce the ideas of growth, freedom and personal confidence.”
He adds that the illustration style has been kept simple and childlike to mimic one of the key groups of people Qhubeka seeks to help – children who need bicycles to help them get to school.
