A new bicycle brings great joy

67 Minutes for 67 Bicycles

“What counts in life is not the mere fact we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead” –Nelson Mandela

18 July 2013 marks the 95th birthday of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, and the fourth Nelson Mandela International Day.

The vision behind this key event is simple: that each individual has the ability and responsibility to impact change.

One message drives this vision: Mr Mandela gave 67 years of his life fighting for social justice and human rights. The Mandela Day campaign asks that individuals, groups and corporates use just 67 minutes of their time on 18 July, and every day thereafter, to give back.

No matter how small the action, the aim is to change the world for the better, just as Mr Mandela has.

This Mandela Day Qhubeka is inviting you to spend 67 minutes riding a bicycle to give someone else the chance to own a bicycle.

On Thursday 18July we are asking all of our supporters to get on their bicycles and ride for 67 minutes, then go online and donate at least R67 to Qhubeka. You can arrange to meet your friends and cycle in a group, or you can just head out on your own. We don’t mind where you cycle, just that you do.

Qhubeka’s goal is to raise enough money to fund 67 Bicycles which is the equivalent of R134 000.00. All we need is 2 000 people willing to ride their bicycles for 67 minutes and we can help 67 people in South Africa move forward.

How to get involved:

Take to the roads, trails or a stationary bicycle on 18 July and cycle for 67 minutes.

Take a photo of yourself before and after your cycle, make sure to include a clock or watch in the pic, and post it to twitter or facebook. Don’t forget to tag us or use the hashtag: #67minutes67bicycles

We are asking that you use our GivenGain page to donate so we can keep track of the funds.  All donors will be invited to visit one of our handovers and see Qhubeka in action.
