Our process
To get Qhubeka bicycles to the people and communities who need them, we follow a fairly lengthy process.
-
We cannot change lives with bicycles without the continued support of individuals, organisations and communities across the world.
From buying merchandise to funding an entire bicycle distribution, every act of support by an individual or organisation helps us to move more people forward with bicycles.
-
Together with our partners we manufacture and source parts for the bicycles that we distribute into our various programmes.
-
The bicycle assembly facility provides work and training opportunities for people in the community where it operates.
-
Qhubeka trains bicycle mechanics in the communities where we work.
This creates economic opportunities for the mechanics, who are trained in repairing bicycles and basic business skills.
-
Each beneficiary is trained prior to receiving their bicycle. This includes an introduction to the bicycle, how to use the accessories and spares parts, learning to ride as well as basic rules of the road.
Once the training has been completed each beneficiary signs a contact, with various commitments, before receiving their bicycles.
-
All beneficiaries that have completed their training and signed their contracts receive their bicycles as part of a distribution ceremony.
-
To ensure that the bicycles remain in use we have a team that visits the schools where we have distributed bicycles to repair and maintain the bicycles.
